The Living History of Science

We provide characters, ISAAC NEWTON, ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL and MICHAEL FARADAY, all fully costumed and played by David Hall, who has been with our agency since 1998 and is immensely popular with school audiences KS2 and KS3 and for special occasions. A normal school day involves two lectures of around an hour by the selected character.

David Hall adapts each performance to his audience from 9 upwards and he is equally successful with primary and secondary schools (more educational) or adult association lunches & dinners (more anecdotal). David also performs Maths and Drama workshops.

Established in 1989, the agency was initially funded by the BAAS, providing fully costumed actors, scripted and directed by Johnny. Each character appeared as they were in real life, but also had a clear understanding of today, so that they could discuss the impact of their life’s work in retrospect, making their talks both highly entertaining and scientifically enlightening for all ages.

It is a sad reflection on the modern Science curriculum that very few historic names are even mentioned in schools science today, which has resulted in demand for most of these legendary characters dwindling, despite the rave reviews they generally received.

The total list of characters we have created in some form, includes Archimedes, Al Khwarizmi, Adelard of Bath, Fibbonacci, Galileo, Newton, Von Guerricke, Dalton, Davy, Oersted, Faraday, Ada Byron (first computer programmer), George Stephenson, Brunel, Watt, Boulton, Murdoch, Darwin, Mendel, Nightingale, Kelvin, Curie, Bell, Swann, Edison, Tesla and Einstein.

By arrangement with Johnny any historic or scientific character or group of characters can still be scripted, cast, rehearsed and re-created to order.
